II VALLE DEL SOL – TARA
RESORT GOLF CUP
On last Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th
of August, 2003, the Valle del Sol Cup took place
for the second year in a row, with the main sponsorship
by Tara Resort Hotel and the participation of 104
amateur players and 16 professionals. The route consisted
of 18 holes on both days, and after an abundant breakfast
served by the Villas del Río Hotel, the amateurs
began at 7:30 a.m. under the Shot Gun modality (which
means everyone at the same time). The professionals
began at 8:00 a.m. with an ordered start. On Sunday,
everyone commenced at the same time as one whole group,
under the radiant sun and the clear skies of Valle
del Sol.
The social event was at 5:30 p.m. on
Saturday at the Tara Resort Hotel in San Antonio de
Escazú, where all the golfers and their companions
shared a special buffet-style dinner and enjoyed Carlos
“El Porcionsón” Ramos’s spicy
humor. During the activity, the donation for the Lagos
de Lindora School took place, thanks to a contribution
made by the Golf Professionals of Costa Rica. A contribution
was also made by Habitasul to the Philantropic Association
of the Lion’s Club (Club de Leones), which manages
the Cornea Bank Unit of Costa Rica. Moreover, many
raffles took place, courtesy of the sponsors, such
as a Continental Airlines plane ticket to any destination
in the United States and a prize from Swedish Collection.
On Sunday, a variety of activities took
place. The first was for the professional golfers,
and consisted of the Longest Drive which took place
in the Practice Tee next to the Putting Green, which
was won by Alejandro Duque. The next activity was
the Longest Drive contest in the 1st Hole for the
amateurs, which was won by Alexander Boneman with
an impressive shot of approximately 324 yards, leaving
the ball at only 9 yards from the Green. In the Putting
Green, two 70 foot shots took place, one to win a
Yamaha 900cc motorcycle and the other, to win a Yamaha
golf cart. Both of these prizes were courtesy of Lachner
y Saenz Corporation. The two players who had the opportunity
to make the shots were Jeffrey Davis and Rodolfo Nieto,
who live in Parque Valle del Sol. Afterwards, the
Hole in One contest took place in the provisional
Tee which is 140 yards from the Green in the 3rd Hole.
The prize was a Honda Accord, courtesy of Faco. The
closest shot was made by Michael Hawkins, winner of
the II Valle del Sol Amateur Cup, who also displayed
excellent net scores during the 2 days of the tournament.
In the professional category, the golfer Álvaro
Ortiz took the cup with a gross score of 69 and 68.
Cristian Morera, the Director of the Valle del Sol
Academy ended up in second place, with 70 and 75.
And congratulations to Mr. William Rodríguez,
resident of Parque Valle del Sol, who did a Hole in
One on Saturday in the 15th Hole, which was 207 yards
long.
Without a doubt, the activity was a
success, both in the participation of the golfers
and the sponsors, to whom we thank their support.
Geovanni Romanini, from the Golf Shop comments that
it was: “A tournament of competitive nature,
with a lot of organization, where the punctuality
and organization met.”
Congratulations to the winners and all
other participants!
