FIRST VALLE DEL SOL CUP TOURNAMENT
AUGUST 10 & 11 OF 2002

On August 10th and 11th the first Valle del Sol golf tournament was held. A total of 81 players of various nationalities showed up to play on our golf course. First place was won by Mr. Arturo García, and after an intense tie breaking round second and third where taken by Mr. Jerry Bashum and Mr. Giovanny Brenes, all frequent players at Valle del Sol Golf Course. This tournament, was very well organized and was played in record time of 4 1/2 hours each day. "The level of the game was very good" says Giovanny Romanini from the Pro-Shop "the players stuck strictly to the international Golf rules, which increased the quality of the game." It was interesting to see how some players, such as Mr. Bashum, with a relatively low handicap, achieved a 75 gross score each day, to which subtracting his tournament handicap (80% of the official), his score came to be 71. "This shows that even when the tournament was a handicap tournament, good players with a low record managed a good score, something that is uncommon nevertheless achievable" commented Carlos Rojas, Golf Director.
We can also mention that Mr. García has been growing in the Costa Rican game of golf: with a handicap of 80% (14 pts), achieved the win with 69 strokes, 3 under par. The sponsors attention was painstaking and all participants and spectators where pleased with the level and the organization of the tournament.
